There’s a guy I work with in Milwaukee who is a true Wisconsin sports fan. Packers, Brewers, Badgers, Bucks — he loves them all and supports his teams any way he can.
On the other hand, my team allegiances are fungible — able to be replaced by another. I left New York 40 years ago, and have lived or worked in seven states. My childhood connections to one team have faded.
This drives Mike crazy. College football? My son-in-law went to Alabama — Roll Tide! Baseball and hockey? I live in Chicagoland — Go Cubs and Black Hawks! Basketball? My wife grew up in Oklahoma City — Go Thunder!
As we approached the NFL playoffs, he announced that I would not be permitted to claim the Packers. I looked at him and said, “Well, my daughter and son-in-law live in Atlanta”.
Sorry, can’t print his response.
Let’s go Falcons!
